 1. Who is considered a grade exception player?

ANSWER

( Also See AAU Boys' Basketball Handbook Section V. Competition Rules #3)

An athlete who does not meet the age determining date may qualify to play if

he is in the same grade as that age/grade division requires (EX. 12U/6th Grade,

13U/7th Grade, ETC) and no more than one year older than the age determining

date for that grade level. You go by the grade of the athlete as of March 1st, 2003.

Example:

During the 2003 AAU season, in the 14U/8th grade division, a player

would be considered a grade exception if he was in the 8th grade and was born on

or after September 1st 1987. Which means he could not turn 16 prior to September

1st of 2003.

2. I have a son who wants to play in AAU Basketball events, how do I find a team to play on?

ANSWER

The first step you should take is to talk to anybody you know who plays or

has a son who plays in AAU basketball events so that you can get in contact with

his coach. If that coach cannot accommodate you then ask if he knows of other

coaches looking for players or hosting try-outs.

The second step you should take is to contact your local AAU Boys' Basketball

Chairperson to see if he has any leads on tryouts or coaches looking for players.

Please visit www.aauboysbasketball.org and click on contacts to find your local AAU

Boys' Basketball Chairperson. Or just dial 1-800-AAU-4USA and you will be

connected to your local AAU Association office.

The third step you should take to locate a team is to visit www.eteamz.com

Once you pull the site up work from the left hand side, it will ask you to choose a

sport, click on Basketball. Then on the left hand side under the icon WEBSITES click

on SITE FINDER. From there, scroll down and click on Amateur Athletic Union. The

next page you get to will ask you to choose a state and to enter you zip code. This

will give you a list of basketball clubs to contact in your area.

The fourth step you should consider is starting your own AAU basketball club.

Locate some other kids in your son’s age group and begin developing your team.

After you talk with all the parents involved, some will be able to either coach the

team themselves or find somebody that could do it.

3. How do I start my own AAU basketball program?

ANSWER

The first thing you need to do is visit our web site at www.aausports.org or call

the AAU National Headquarters to receive a Club Membership Application. After

your $30 club membership is paid you can start assembling your team. Each

athlete and coach on your team is required to have an individual AAU membership.

These memberships can be purchased at our web site at www.aausports.org . The

prices for membership are $10 or $12 for athletes and $12 or $14 for coaches.

You will then need to visit www.aauboysbasketball.org and obtain a Boys

Basketball Handbook with all the rules and regulations. This will help you with you

all age/eligibility questions and all make you knowledgeable of AAU rules and

regulations.

You should then contact your Boys Basketball Association Chairperson so
